Appeal Virtual Machines Today Released JRockit(tm) 2.0 Premium Virtual Machine for Java(r) on Sun's Solaris(r) Operating System

JRockit's Scalability, Stability and Code Performance Matches the Needs of Typical Solaris Web Sites

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, March 6, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Appeal Virtual Machines, the Swedish Software Company dedicated to developing and marketing better Virtual Machines for Java, today released JRockit 2.0 for Solaris. A free 90-day, fully functional trial license can be downloaded from www.jrockit.com. Linux and Windows 2000 versions have been available for download since Feb. 20.

Developers and administrators of business-critical Web sites typically put a premium on stability, scalability and performance. This is particularly true for the demanding sites running Sun's Solaris operating System. The new JRockit 2.0 Virtual Machine for Java offers exactly these features for server side Java, in a product that is easy to download and install.

"Our ambition is to offer Java without bottlenecks to major Web sites and intranets. JRockit ranges from outstanding to just as good as the best competitor, depending on what you measure. We are particularly strong on multi-user performance in multiprocessor environments and I/O for broadband and other demanding applications. But the important thing is that JRockit 2.0 will help any Java-based Web site get the margins on its side," said Joakim Dahlstedt, CEO and principal architect, Appeal Virtual Machines.

JRockit has evolved significantly from version 1.1 to 2.0. Solaris is supported in addition to Linux and Windows 2000. Multiprocessors are fully supported and multi-user scalability has improved from an already leading position. I/O performance is world class, the system can choose between several optimized garbage collectors, and the dynamic optimization of code and memory usage has been improved, including a patented technology for removing old optimized methods from memory without disruptions.

JRockit 2.0 can replace existing JVMs, or be integrated with applications by ISVs, OEMs and System Integrators. It works as an insurance policy against bottlenecks in Java execution, while strictly adhering to the Java specification.
