Appeal Virtual Machines: Swedish Railroad Operator Green Cargo Uses JRockit to Speed Up Java Based Logistics Application

Green Cargo AB, the Swedish Freight Railway, is Using Jrockit Java Virtual Machine, from Appeal Virtual Machines, to Speed Up the Production Environment for Vadis, a Java-Based Logistics Application

SAN MATEO, Calif., Feb. 11, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Appeal Virtual Machines, a technology leader in manageable, high performance Virtual Machines for the Java platform, today announced that the Swedish Railroads' Green Cargo subsidiary is using JRockit Java Virtual Machine in their production environment for Vadis. Vadis, a logistics application developed and maintained in cooperation with Carmen Consulting, handles 6,500 railroad trucks and 70,000 planned logistics routes per week. The current versions of Vadis and JRockit have been in production at Green Cargo since October 2001, combining high availability and excellent performance.

"JRockit is now a part of our Java production environment, and we are pleased with the experience. The JVM from Appeal Virtual Machines is used to power Vadis, a business critical logistics application," said Kerstin Stenberg, CIO, Green Cargo.

"Carmen Consulting was faced with a tradeoff problem between performance and stability. We solved the problem by shifting to the JRockit JVM from Appeal Virtual Machines. It provides us with the performance of server side Java that the Vadis application requires, without compromising stability. The fact that JRockit has since been officially certified by Sun Microsystems strengthens our conviction that JRockit is the long-term solution," said Tomas Liden, Senior consultant, Carmen Consulting.

Carmen Systems with its subsidiary Carmen Consulting is providing logistics applications to airlines and rail transportation companies. Further details on Vadis can be found at: http://www.carmen.se/carmenconsulting/cc_case_rel_time_opt.htm

Appeal Virtual Machines' JRockit products are designed and optimized for the demands of server-side execution of Java technology, including multi-user scalability, non-disruptive garbage collectors, optimizations for multiprocessors, and the ability to monitor and manage the execution of Java technology based applications.
