FN Manufacturing, Makers of the M16 Rifle, Chooses SkyRecon to Protect Employee Laptops

After Trying a Variety of Other Measures, SkyRecon StormShield Solves the Problem

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - June 9, 2008) - SkyRecon Systems (www.skyrecon.com), the premier provider of integrated, proactive endpoint security solutions, today announced that FN Manufacturing, the maker of M16 rifles and small arms for the U.S. military and law enforcement, has selected SkyRecon's StormShield for endpoint security on employee laptops.

FN Manufacturing first tried a variety of other measures, including personal firewalls and anti-virus software, but found these did not provide the necessary level of security, i.e. the same as that provided for desktop systems located physically in the office. Presented with the dilemma of balancing productivity with risk, FN Manufacturing had to find a solution to secure their mobile workers.

"There is a lot of sensitive data on our laptops," said Olivier Vanderstraeten, FN Manufacturing's network security systems manager. "Besides the employee's own personal information, there are often product drawings and schematics. These are highly confidential."

FN Manufacturing began researching better security options. Realizing that anti-virus and personal firewalls were simply not enough to protect workers off-site, whether working at the local coffee shop or while traveling, they considered various vendors before selecting StormShield from SkyRecon Systems.

"Now, we're not so worried about where those laptops go and what they do when they're away from the office," Vanderstraeten said. "StormShield gives us the ability to set dynamic network-aware policies, such as prohibiting connections to ad-hoc networks, so we know we can trust that users are protected where they are most vulnerable -- outside of our corporate network."

A recent TechWorld Awards finalist for Endpoint Security Product of the Year, StormShield offers integrated system and data protection in a single product. Relying on behaviors rather than signatures or heuristics -- approaches that are becoming more and more antiquated -- StormShield protects data where it is most at risk: on the endpoints. StormShield provides integrated device control, data encryption, application control, host-based intrusion prevention (HIPS), system firewall, wireless security, and Network Access Control (NAC). Its client-side agent also provides zero-day protection without the need for signature or rule updates -- all using only a few megabytes of memory, a fraction of the size of competing products on the market.
