AAOHN Webcast Series Examines Health Risks During Global Business Travel

ATLANTA, Dec. 29, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (AAOHN), www.aaohn.org, will host a series of informative webcasts starting in January that address the variety of health risks business travelers encounter and the preventive measures available to healthcare professionals.

Available to both AAOHN members and the general healthcare community, the webcasts cover a different travel-related health topic and are led by an expert speaker in each respective field. The speakers will present strategies healthcare professionals can incorporate to aide business travelers in preventing and treating the respective health risks.

"American corporations rely heavily on occupational and environmental health nurses (OHNs) to prepare their employees for the health risks of global travel," said AAOHN president Richard Kowalski. "We are excited about the AAOHN webcast series and the wealth of knowledge the presenters bring to the audience."

American corporations have established a strong presence in the Europe, Africa and Asia markets. With this exponential increase in international business travel, OHNs are counseling companies and preparing employees for the possible travel health risks involved in specific locations. OHN interventions have become an integral part of corporate travel policies and procedures.

The webcasts cover topics at the forefront of travel health: Health Risk Assessment for the Global Traveler; Venous Thrombosis; Global Travel Immunization Update; and Viral Gastroenteritis. Each webcast is designed specifically to assist healthcare professionals in protecting the health of business travelers, educating them about possible risks, devising a plan to protect them during their travels and preparing them with recommended vaccinations and treatments.

The experts presenting the webcast series include: Suzanne Hughes, MSN, RN, FAHA, Director of Health Education and Nursing Research at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, OH; Gail Rosselot, APRN, BC, MS, MPH, COHN-S, CTH(tm) of Travel Well of Westchester, Inc. in Briarcliff Manor, NY; Jeffery A. Goad, Pharm.D., MPH, Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy; and Aron J. Hall, DVM, MSPH, Medical Epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

The webcast series is available for registration by visiting www.aaohn.org. Dates for the series are Jan. 14, Jan. 28, Feb. 11, and Feb. 25, with each webcast only $50 for AAOHN members and $75 for non-members. AAOHN members can purchase the entire series for $150.

AAOHN is a global organization with members who encompass the entire range of health and safety workers, worker populations and community groups.
