Pennsylvania Man Arrested and Convicted for Fake Receipts in Homeowner Property Loss

RALEIGH, N.C., June 23, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- G4S Compliance & Investigations (G4S) and Homesite Insurance Company announce the arrest and conviction of an insured homeowner for submitting a falsified insurance claim.

Jonathan Fry of Pennsylvania attempted to defraud Homesite Insurance by filing a bogus property loss claim in excess of $25,000. The adjuster handling Mr. Fry's claim identified several red flags of suspicion as he worked through the claim adjustment process. Among the documents provided for proof of ownership, Mr. Fry submitted receipts with clear discrepancies and errors. G4S, the Special Investigation Unit for Homesite Insurance, was assigned to investigate. G4S Investigators obtained statements from witnesses and collected other relevant evidence that assisted in determining the true facts of the reported loss and subsequent false receipts and documentation submitted by the insured.    On May 3, 2011, Jonathan Fry pled guilty to one count of third degree Insurance Fraud, was ordered to pay $500 to the Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority, including prosecution costs, and was ordered to perform fifty hours of community service.

"Everyone pays for insurance fraud through increased premiums and increased costs for goods and services," said Michael Malone, President of G4S Compliance & Investigations. "This arrest shows that there is no safe haven for those who commit criminal acts against their insurance companies."

The arrest and conviction of Mr. Fry is the culmination of an in-depth investigation conducted by G4S and the keen eye of Homesite's adjuster who identified the potential red flags.

Alex Punsalan, Vice President and Chief Claims Officer stated, "This conviction is proof of Homesite's commitment to the fight against insurance fraud. If anyone has filed a fraudulent claim or is thinking about filing a fraudulent claim against Homesite they should know that we will prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law."
