Benefits of Passive Polarized 3D Displays to be Presented


WESTBOROUGH, Mass., March 8, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Viking Systems, Inc. (OTCBB:VKNG), a leading worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of 3D and 2D visualization solutions for complex minimally invasive surgery, announced today that its 3DHD Vision System will be the topic of a presentation at the 2011 annual meeting of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), March 7-10, 2012 in San Diego, CA.

For the eighth year, SAGES, as part of the SAGES Technology Initiative, will present the Emerging Technology Session. Surgeons, physicians and scientists from academic centers as well as industry have been invited to submit abstracts for presentation. The submission guidelines indicate that topics reflecting "late breaking", "cutting-edge" or novel information are greatly encouraged.

At this year's SAGES meeting, Ralph V. Smith, A.R. Day, T.A. Rockall, M.E. Bailey, and I.C. Jourdan from the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit, Guildford UK will present the results of their study "Experienced Laparoscopic Surgeons Gain Significant Advantage Using 3D Passive Polarizing Displays." The study concludes, "All grades of surgeons gain significant advantages using passive polarizing 3D displays in simulated settings and similar advantages are anticipated when performing minimally invasive surgical procedures." Mr. Smith will be in the Viking booth to answer questions from surgeons regarding the conclusions of the study on Thursday, March 8th from 12:15 - 1:15 PM and Friday 9:30 - 10:15 AM.
