SCHAUMBURG, IL--(Marketwired - Jun 3, 2014) - Omron has announced the latest in their line of FPC/FFC (Flexible Printed Circuit/Flexible Flat Cable) connectors, the XF3M. The design of the new connectors goes well beyond simple interfacing, with features that speed interconnection, and lock the FPC or FFC in place for reliability.
Models are currently available from 6 to 60 contacts for the 0.5mm pitch versions and 4 to 30 contacts for the 1.0 mm pitch versions. An 80 contact version of XF3M for the 0.5mm pitch will be available soon. The XF3M was designed to be used with 0.3mm thickness FPC/FFC.
A clever dual-contact design provides flexible design, allowing circuit designers to utilize either upper or lower contact FPC or FFCs. A four-sided housing prevents cable displacement during insertion. These features save assembly time and enhance work efficiency. When locked, a tactile click confirms proper connection and security. The connector is shipped with the rotary lock in the open position, further eliminating a step in the customer's assembly process. For assembly ergonomics, the XF3M is designed to accept the FFC or FPC from an upward angle. This feature is new, and exclusive to the XF3M.
Unlike conventional connectors or connectors with a front lock, lifting the FPC/FFC will not cause accidental separation due to the rotary backlock mechanism which Omron pioneered. Omron originated the first connector with a rotary backlock in 1998 and has more experience than any other company in the design and manufacture of backlocking FPC/FFC connectors.
The contacts have spring copper alloy-nickel substrates with a gold flash, and are halogen-free. The LCP resin housing and slider are both UL94V-0 listed. Operating temperature range is -30 to +85°C.
Applications for Omron XF3M connectors span almost every segment of electronics. In addition to their common use for interfacing LCD panels, the connectors are also well suited for PC board to PC board connection with a FFC.
