F.L.Smidth wins contract in Brazil

The Brazilian cement producer Cia de Cimentos do Brasil has placed an order with F.L.Smidth for engineering and supply of machinery and equipment at a total value of about DKK 100m (EUR 13.4m)

The project covers installation of a complete 2,000 tonnes per day cement clinker production line at Cia de Cimentos do Brasil's existing facility in Campo Formoso, Bahia State, Brazil. The new production line will feature the latest in cement production technology including the following main equipment: Crusher, bridge reclaimer, silo and kiln feed system, preheater prepared for burning of alternative fuels, two-support kiln, clinker cooler and cement mill.

The project has been under way for two years, and during the past two months the contract has been negotiated by F.L.Smidth's subsidiary in São Paulo. Under the contract F.L.Smidth Inc. (former Fuller Company) based in the US will be responsible for the imported portion of the engineering and all equipment supplies. The domestic portion of engineering and auxiliary equipment supplies will be handled through F.L.Smidth Ltda. in Brazil.

The new production line is expected to enter into operation in March 2003. The order is included in F.L.Smidth's sales budget for 2001 and will therefore not change the estimated profit for the year.

Cia de Cimentos do Brasil is part of the Portuguese cement and building materials producer Cimpor. Cimpor is the biggest Portuguese cement producer with a worldwide total installed capacity of close to 18m tonnes per year. Brazil is Cimpor's biggest operation outside Portugal and has a total annual installed capacity of 5.8m tonnes. In addition to Portugal and Brazil, Cimpor operates cement plants in Spain, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia and Mozambique.
