Nokia and Internet Security Systems Expand Cooperation to Deliver Intrusion Detection for Effective Information Protection

Las Vegas - May 8, 2001 - Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and Internet Security Systems (ISS) (Nasdaq: ISSX) announced today that they have expanded their existing partnership aimed at ensuring the protection of enterprise and managed service providers customers. This new agreement broadens the scope of the ISS/Nokia relationship encompassing continued development of the industry's first enterprise-class intrusion detection appliance, RealSecure(TM) for Nokia. In addition, the agreement covers offerings and joint channel and marketing activities that will broaden the companies' reach in delivering simplified security solutions to partners and customers worldwide.

"Nokia and ISS share a similar mission in providing simplified security management solutions that serve to effectively protect the integrity, confidentiality and availability of our customers' digital assets," said Greg Shortell, vice president Global Sales & Marketing, Nokia Internet Communications. "Our expanded partnership delivers critical security solutions, including the groundbreaking RealSecure for Nokia intrusion detection appliance and scalable managed security services, and will serve to better equip our channel partners to be successful in providing these solutions to end users."

"ISS has named Nokia its appliance of choice for delivering multiple managed security services including Managed Firewall/VPN and Intrusion Protection," said Steve Gant, vice president of new ventures for Internet Security Systems. "Nokia's unique architecture, reliability, and remote manageability will enable us to cost-effectively deliver our industry-leading managed security services to enterprise-class customers as well as small to medium sized businesses."

"Driven by ease of installation and low management overhead, we have seen exceptional growth in the use of hardware-based Security Appliances," according to Charles Kolodgy, IDC's Internet Security Research Manager. He reports that Security Appliances are catching on with customers. "We believe that the Firewall Appliance revenues doubled in both 1999 and 2000. In 1999, Intrusion Detection (ID) Appliances were half the size of the ID software market, but we expect the two ID markets should be roughly comparable by 2001."
