Nokia expands its support of independent application developers

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced the availability of the Nokia Developer ProPoint, a new support service targeted at developers creating applications and services for Nokia's mobile devices. The new support service complements services already offered by Forum Nokia, Nokia's global developer program.

The Nokia Developer ProPoint offers software developer companies a wide range of services including advanced application development tools and tutorials, technical support and a developer newsletter. Tools enable developers to test the compatibility of their applications and services with Nokia devices before launching applications. Additionally, the service offers members opportunities to increase the exposure of their company and applications through marketing activities, including use of the Nokia OK logo for Nokia 9210 Communicator applications and participation in trade shows and conferences with Nokia.

"Nokia is committed to accelerating the deployment of new mobile applications and services based on open industry standards," said Jouko Häyrynen, Vice President at Nokia Mobile Phones, Markets and Business Development. "We are doing this by providing developers with technical support to get their applications up and running faster and with marketing exposure to help increase the distribution of their applications. The Nokia Developer ProPoint represents an alliance of developers who are able to take advantage of application and service development opportunities for Nokia mobile phones, and who want to co-operate with Nokia in the mobile terminals business to develop mutual new business opportunities while enhancing the end users experience.'

In conjunction with this announcement, the Nokia developer community in the Asia Pacific region is also having its first regional Nokia Developers Conference on June 19th and 20th as part of the Nokia Connection event held in Singapore. Development companies within Nokia's on-line development community can apply to the Nokia Developer ProPoint at www.forum.nokia.com.
