Misys Enhances Foothold in U.S. Healthcare Market

Medic Computer Systems, Sunquest to Comprise Powerful Healthcare Division

RALEIGH, N.C., June 26, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Misys, the parent company of Raleigh-based Medic Computer Systems, today announced its intent to acquire Sunquest, a leading provider of clinical systems to hospitals and other acute care facilities across the United States.

When finalized, the acquisition will solidify Misys' leading position in the U.S. healthcare market according to corporate representatives. Misys' Healthcare Division, comprised of Medic Computer Systems and Sunquest, will together have 2,300 employees serving 85,000 physicians, 700 homecare agencies and 1,000 hospitals with revenues topping $400 million. The deal is expected to close within 30 days.

Medic CEO Tom Skelton, who will head up both companies, said the acquisition solidifies Misys' position in the U.S. healthcare marketplace.

"Medic has been, and will continue to be, a leader in the healthcare marketplace by providing physicians with systems that automate both the business and clinical components of their practices," he said. "And with the addition of Sunquest to the Misys Healthcare Division, we're moving into the acute care market, insuring our ability to provide a patient-centric medical record with data from across the continuum of care."

Medic, acquired by Misys in 1997, is ranked among the nation's leading companies in the provision of practice management systems, Electronic Medical Records (EMR), homecare systems, and E-Commerce services. Serving more than 85,000 physicians nationwide, Medic continues to produce cutting-edge technology for the automation of physician practices.

Sunquest, based in Tucson, Ariz., is a leading provider of clinical solutions for the laboratory, radiology and pharmacy sectors. The company has more than 900 employees in the United States and India.

With the impending formal addition of Sunquest to the Misys Healthcare Division, Misys officials say the company is well positioned for growth. Because fewer than 5 percent of physicians are currently using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) technology, industry analysts predict substantial growth in the clinical sector of the market.

"The acquisition of Sunquest consolidates our position as a leading provider of healthcare information systems," said Misys Chairman Kevin Lomax. "This agreement extends Misys' presence into the acute care market, placing it in an excellent position to exploit the expected growth in clinical systems. The combination of Medic's leading position in physician practice management systems and Sunquest's strengths in the clinical environment will broaden Misys' ability to meet U.S. healthcare providers' increasing requirements for information systems which improve efficiency and enhance patient care."

Finalization of the acquisition is expected to take place next month. For more information, visit the Medic Website at www.medic.com, or the Sunquest site at www.sunquest.com.
