Conexant and BVRP Deliver New NetWaiting Feature for V.92 Modems

End-Users Now Able to "Suspend" Internet Connection to Place or Receive Incoming Calls

PARIS, Aug. 23, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Conexant Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor system solutions for communications applications, and BVRP, a leading developer of communications software, today announced that the two companies have collaborated to introduce NetWaiting, a new software application for V.92-based dial-up modems. NetWaiting enhances the end-user's dial-up modem experience with new features that support Call Waiting and Caller ID.

"We're proud to join efforts with BVRP and provide home networking users with the added convenience and flexibility that NetWaiting makes possible," said Akram Atallah, vice president, narrowband products for Conexant's personal computing division. "This suite of features, along with our V.92 modem, continues to further enhance usability of our products, and is a noteworthy advancement in modem functionality."

"BVRP is very pleased to be working with one of the leading suppliers of dial-up modems to bring these powerful new modem on hold capabilities to the computer desktop," said Bob Lang, president of BVRP USA.

V.92 modems enhanced with the new NetWaiting feature enable end-users with Call Waiting to be notified of incoming calls while remaining on the Internet, allowing them to place the Internet "on hold" for several minutes while taking the telephone call. Users can also place the modem "on hold" and make an out-going call without losing the Internet connection. NetWaiting also supports Caller ID service by displaying the incoming caller's phone number and identification. In addition, users can maintain a database of frequent callers so that familiar names are displayed and identified.

NetWaiting features an easy-to-use interface that is configurable through the preferences menu. Users have the ability to specify call options, ignoring all incoming calls, accepting all incoming calls and disconnecting the Internet connection, or screening all incoming calls and prompting the user. The new application is available now in all Conexant-based V.92 modems and drivers and supports Microsoft (R) Windows (R) 95, 98, 2000, Me and XP.
