VAISALA DELIVERS AUTOMATIC WEATHER STATIONS TO THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE

Vaisala Group has received a major order, valued at 3,5 million USD,
to supply the United States Air Force with Tactical Meteorological
Observation Systems (TACMET). The order of 60 systems is continuation
to the orders that started in 2000. The systems will be delivered by
the end of May this year.

The Vaisala TACMET Meteorological Observation System is an automatic
weather station that measures wind, air temperature, humidity,
barometric pressure, precipitation and aviation support parameters,
such as cloud height and coverage, visibility and thunderstorm. The
system is portable and compact.

The TACMET Systems belong to Vaisala's range of surface weather
observation products. The technology is based on the Group's standard
products, which are being delivered to meteorological institutes and
aviation authorities all over the world.

"The importance of weather conditions and their monitoring is growing
rapidly worldwide. Like other professional meteorological user groups,
defense forces worldwide are putting a lot of emphasis on automating
the surface weather observations with modern commercial-off-the-shelf
equipment. With TACMET, we have succeeded in creating a leading
tactical weather observation system using existing technology and
components of the Vaisala Group. After this latest order we have
delivered the United States Air Force over 200 TACMET Systems", says
President and CEO Pekka Ketonen.
