Carlsberg Breweries Sells Rent A Cooler to Eden Springs


Valby, Denmark, Feb. 14, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Carlsberg Breweries A/S sells its Rent A Cooler companies in Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to Eden Springs, which is an European leader within marketing of water bottled in large plastic containers for workplaces.

The selling price is approx. DKK 220 million, which gives Carlsberg Breweries a pre-tax capital gain of approx. DKK 175 million. The Danish company is not part of the deal, and Carlsberg Breweries continues to operate this company.

Rent A Cooler started its activities in 1988 as part of the Swedish Ramloesa group, and has since developed into a leading brand within its field. Rent A Cooler owns two water springs, has around 35,000 customers and 157 employees.

The 2001 turnover of Eden Springs was DKK 970 million representing a 30 percent increase compared to the previous year. With the latest acquisitions, Eden Springs consolidates its market position in 12 European countries, in which it serves approx. 300,000 customers.
