LINKOPING, SWEDEN, June 4, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- German broadband operator HanseNet has ordered the Kreatel IP-based set-top box system to be used for TV services in ADSL and fiber (FTTH) networks. In May 2002, HanseNet had nearly 20 000 DSL-subscribers connected in Hamburg.
HanseNet is the first network operator that will run the Kreatel IP-STB in an ADSL environment. The operator provides a broadband service package with IPTV and Video-on-Demand. On June 1, HanseNet started its Video-on-Demand service in Hamburg with 350 movies that can be watched on TV. At the end of the year, customers will be able to choose from approximately 700 movies.
"The Kreatel IP-STB system is commercially deployed in FTTH networks, and we are now pleased to have signed this agreement with our first ADSL customer and also our first customer on the German market," said Lars Bengtsson, Managing Director of Kreatel Communications. HanseNet is an important operator that has reached far with the broadband rollout.
