Buffalo Technology Partners With MSI On DDR2 Validation

The Alliance Expands Buffalo's Reach in the Gaming and Overclocking Markets

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 9, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage and memory solutions today announced it has partnered with Micro-Star International Co., Ltd (MSITM), a leader in the design and manufacturing of motherboards and server solutions. The companies have joined forces for the cross-validation of Buffalo's high-performance DDR2 memory modules with MSI's award-winning motherboards.

Buffalo has provided MSI with its 256MB and 512MB unbuffered DDR2 533MHz memory modules for validation and optimization on MSI motherboards. In return, Buffalo is evaluating MSI's DDR motherboards and dual channel motherboards that contain both DDR and DDR2 sockets to validate the overclocking capabilities of its memory modules, thus expanding its presence in the gaming market. The products being tested include AMD Athlon 64 CPU and Intel Pentium 4 Prescott CPU based motherboards.

"MSI is internationally known for providing superior products and high quality customer service, and we are pleased to work with them on the validation of our memory modules," stated Steve Havis, Director of Buffalo Technology's U.S. Memory Division. "This partnership provides us the opportunity to enhance the capabilities of our products while furthering our position in the gaming and overclocking communities."

"Buffalo has the experience and the reputation we look for in a partnership, and it is an honor to work with such a prominent company," stated Andy Tung, Senior Product Manager at MSI. "Our partnership with Buffalo underscores our dedication to providing superior products, which has been the foundation of our faithful customer-base and MSI's success."

Amongst the MSI motherboards being tested by Buffalo is the 925X NEO Platinum. This motherboard supports IntelTM P4 Prescott CPUs in LGA 775 (Socket T) package and includes the Intel Alderwood 925X chipset. It also supports dual-channel DDR2 533/400 memory and offers up to FSB1066 support and GbLAN+10/100Mb LAN for flexible networking. Slots include one PCI Express x16 slot and two PCI Express x1 slots. Both support PCI Express Bus specifications that are v1.0a compliant. The product also features three 32-bit v2.3 Master PCI bus slots (support 3.3v/5v PCI bus interface) as well as USB 2.0. The motherboard includes 4 Serial ATA (Intel ICH6R) with RAID and Matrix RAID and 4 Ultra ATA 133 drives (VIA). The 925X Neo Platinum also features Dynamic Overclocking Technology (D.O.T.), MSI's automatic overclocking function that is included in the latest MSI motherboards.

Based on the new JEDEC (Joint Electronic Device Engineering Council) standard, Buffalo's high performance DDR2 memory modules are designed to enhance performance and increase memory speeds. DDR2 uses new form factors: 240pin DIMM, 244pin DIMM and 200pin SODIMM. Buffalo's DDR2 solutions offer faster transmission speeds than previous DDR technology and feature On-Die Termination (ODT), which helps reduce signal transmission errors and improves timing efficiency. Additional features include reduced power consumption, Posted Column Address Strobe (CAS) for execution of overlapping commands and Bi-directional data strobe to eliminate fluctuations of reference voltage.
