The Power Situation in Norway as of 3 January 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):     

Still wet and mild weather - high inflow  
  In the last two weeks of 2006 the inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs was 4.1 TWh, or about twice as much as normal. The reservoir levels dropped with 0.3 percentage points to 67.0 percent during week 52. In Middle-Norway the level increased with 1.3 percentage points, while the levels in North-Norway was unaltered. In both of these areas the situation has improved compared to 2002 and 2003, during week 51 and 52.   
The electricity consumption in the Nordic countries dropped considerably from week 51 to week 52. In the last week of 2006 the consumption in the area was more than 1 TWh less than in the corresponding week last year. Low consumption contributed to lower Nordic electricity prices, and the average price in Southern Norway was 27.0 øre/kWh in week 52. The Swedish electricity production remained stabile from week 51 to week 52, despite reduced demand and lower prices. The Swedish electricity export to Norway increased and contributed to a total Norwegian net import of 331 GWh in week 52. During 2006 there has been a total net import of 0.7 TWh to Norway.
