Edie's Garden is a Story of Dreams and Hidden Truths -- New Book Tells the Story of a Woman Who Tries to Recreate a Japanese Dry Garden That She Remembers Seeing in a Dream

CHICAGO, Jan. 22, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Making your dreams come true often demands personal sacrifice, dedication, and a lot of heart. When these qualities have been used to care for others instead, the opportunities are lost. In a new book Edie's Garden, author Betty Carr weaves a story of a woman who is given a last chance to make her vision come true.

Readers will meet Edie Holmes, a San Franciscan recovering from surgery, who has always hoped to recreate a beautiful Japanese dry garden she has seen in a dream all her life. During her college years, she collects rocks that resemble the stones in the garden she remembers. Her friend Marian introduces her to Mr. Hutori, an elderly Japanese designer of gardens, urging her to hire him. When Marian describes the vision to Mr. Hutori, he is immediately interested. Edie hires him, but with an uneasy sense of danger. As the work progresses, the details become clearer to Edie and dreams of other gardens emerge; yet, despite the joy she feels, she knows she is drawing back from something lost in the past that gnaws at her. Once completed, will the garden fulfill her dreams or will it lead to something unforeseen? Read the book to find out as the intriguing events unfold.

About the Author

Betty Carr's scrambled early life was perfect for a writer. Divided among her home in suburbia, a rustic Indiana farm, the dunes, and the Chicago Loop, it taught her to appreciate the differences and strengths of people in very different lives. Even college was financed by working in a bookmobile, union office, telephone factory, steel mill, and radio station. She credits thinking, "What a great experience this disaster will be in an autobiography!" with helping her through many a rough time.
