Airspan's WiMAX Solutions Selected by Agile Communications in Australia
| Source: Airspan Networks Inc.
BOCA RATON, FL--(Marketwire - February 14, 2008) - Airspan Networks Inc. (NASDAQ : AIRN ), a
leading worldwide provider of WiMAX based broadband wireless access
networks, today announced that its MicroMAX 3.4 GHz base stations and
corresponding ProST subscriber terminals have been selected by Agile
Communications, a regional telecommunications service company that is part
of the Internode group. Internode is one of Australia's leading nationwide
broadband service providers. In addition to metropolitan broadband service
provision across Australia, the company has been designing and rolling out
innovative and sustainable broadband and voice services in regional South
Australia for more than 7 years.
For 6 months last year, Agile carried out extensive field testing of
Airspan's 3.4 and 5.8 GHz WiMAX equipment for use throughout South
Australia's Yorke Peninsula and Coorong regions, covering over 15,000
square kilometers. The culmination of that testing coincided with the
Australian Government's announcement on October 17th, 2007 that Internode
would be providing broadband services across those regions under the
"Australian Broadband Guarantee" program. Since then over 10 base station
sites have been installed and commissioned and customer premises unit
installations have begun.
"Airspan's broad coverage MicroMAX system is well suited for Internode's
needs. In the wide-ranging testing carried out, we have confirmed the
reliability of the MicroMAX system to cover the terrain necessary to reach
our end users. With speeds exceeding 6 mbp/s at distances of 30km and
greater, this proven performance is paramount to providing service under
the Australian Broadband Guarantee program," said Internode managing
director Simon Hackett.
"The Australian WiMAX market continues to gain momentum and we are pleased
that Airspan has been there from the beginning with a regional presence
through our fully owned incorporated subsidiary, Airspan Networks Pty Ltd,
based in Sydney," said Grant Stepa, Airspan's Managing Director & Vice
President Australasia
Airspan's MicroMAX system provides a low-cost, high-performance
point-to-multipoint IEEE 802.16 compliant solution. This OFDM based
architecture is suited to deliver high-speed data, Voice Over IP (VoIP),
and multimedia services to residential, SOHO (small office/home office),
and SME (small medium enterprise). MicroMAX offers service providers an
integrated access solution, providing quick-to-market deployment and
low-market entry cost for broadband services in an expandable "pay as you
grow" model.
