Northrop Grumman to Begin Construction On Second Cummings Research Park Facility

RESTON, Va. and HUNTSVILLE, Ala., March 3, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) intends to begin construction later this year on the second of four buildings that will comprise its $80 million Cummings Research Park campus, continuing to consolidate operations in the region, increasing efficiency and positioning the company for additional growth in the region.

"This second building will be used to further consolidate business units around the area, including the headquarters for the Kinetic Energy Interceptors program, which is moving to Huntsville, and position us to expand our business base here," said Dan Montgomery, Northrop Grumman's vice president and corporate lead executive for the Huntsville region. "By consolidating our existing operations, we become more efficient, more flexible and better able to serve our customers, which makes us more competitive and positions us for continued growth."

"The company will begin looking for a developer and hopes to break ground by October and to occupy the second building about a year later," Montgomery said.

The new building is expected to provide approximately 100,000 square feet of laboratory and office space for the company.

Northrop Grumman cut the ribbon in April 2007 on its current four-story, 110,000 square-feet Cummings Research Park headquarters building. The existing building houses approximately 400 employees.

Northrop Grumman employs approximately 1,200 people in the Huntsville area, and about 1,500 in Alabama. Employees support a number of military customers in the region, including U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command; Army Aviation and Missile Command; Army Program Executive Office for Aviation; Army Program Executive Office for Missiles and Space; U.S. Missile Defense Agency; National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and Defense Intelligence Agency.

Northrop Grumman's major programs in Huntsville include Kinetic Energy Interceptors; Hellfire Missile; Ground-based Midcourse Defense Fire Control and Launch Control Equipment software; Forward Area Air Defense Command and Control; Command Post Platform; Longbow Missile; and Viper Strike munition.

In addition, the company established a premier Missile Defense Engineering and Analysis Center and the Huntsville System and Mechanical Engineering Center of Excellence. The company is also competing for the U.S. Army's Integrated Air and Missile Defense-Battle Command System program, which could create more jobs in the Huntsville area.
