STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Net Insight; a leading provider of efficient optical transport solutions for media, broadcast and IP networks; today introduced two new access modules for its Nimbra 680, expanding interface support to include asynchronous serial interface (ASI) and Ethernet transport. The introduction extends Nimbra 680 versatility beyond its inherent backbone switching capabilities to include high-capacity video and data aggregation. The Net Insight 8 x Video Access Module offers extensive flexibility for studio, contribution and distribution networks. Each of the module's eight ports can be individually configured as ASI In or ASI Out, as well as standard definition (SD) or high definition (HD) SDI. Seven blades can be added per Nimbra 680 switch, delivering up to 56 universal video ports for optimal transport customization. The ASI interface is configurable for MPEG streams ranging from 2 to 212 Mbps. Since only the MPEG packets are distributed, large amounts of bandwidth are preserved to ensure the highest levels of network utilization."Net Insight received ongoing customer demand for an ASI interface module compatible with the high-capacity Nimbra 680 switch series," said Per Lindgren, VP Business Development and Product Management at Net Insight. "The new module meets that demand, delivering an ideal multi-purpose solution for video streams that require a mix of compressed and uncompressed HD and SD content from a single venue, such as sports arenas and editing trucks." The 8 x Gigabit Ethernet Access Module allows Nimbra 680 users to integrate IP/Ethernet data with video in contribution and distribution networks. The new Ethernet board also enables triple-play voice, data and video services in high-capacity IPTV and CATV networks. Like all Nimbra switches, both the ASI and Ethernet modules guarantee 100 percent quality of service (QoS) at industry-leading bandwidth utilization levels. Nimbra switches transport up to 95 percent bandwidth utilization with zero dropped packets or performance penalties. In addition, extremely low jitter and wander are accomplished through unique synchronous timing capabilities. The new modules are backwards compatible and fully interoperable with interfaces found within the Nimbra One and Nimbra 300 series.
