released a new eight-port 3 Gbps Video Access Module for its Nimbra
600 series multi-service switches.
The Net Insight 8 x 3 Gbps Video Access Module enables transport of
uncompressed 1080p HD video in studio and contribution networks with
100 percent quality of service (QoS) guaranteed. Each of the module's
eight ports can be configured for input or output. This combines with
the 10Gbps bidirectional capacity of each Nimbra 600 slot, allowing
up to three 3 Gbps input and three 3 Gbps output streams per module."Despite the higher picture quality of 1080p, most broadcast and
contribution networks today are restricted to 1080i HD resolutions
due to limited transport bandwidth at acceptable QoS levels," said

distribution, the Net Insight 8 x 3 Gbps Video Access Module enables
routing and multicasting of 3Gbps SDI services in any network
topology."
The Net Insight 3 Gbps Video Access Module can also be used for
1.5Gbps HD and 270Mbps SD SDI transport, delivering a mixture of
1080p, 1080i, 720p and SD signals from a single Nimbra switch. Seven
modules can be added per Nimbra 600 series switch to deliver up to 56
universal video ports for optimal customization. Each stream is
transported independently in secured logical channels to ensure
maximum efficiency and QoS. Future versions of the 3 Gbps Video
Access Module will include support for JPEG2000 and will be able to
compress video streams for efficient use of transport bandwidth.
Like all Nimbra solutions, the 8 x 3 Gbps Video Access Module
guarantees 100 percent QoS at industry-leading bandwidth utilization
levels. Nimbra switches transport up to 97 percent bandwidth
utilization with zero dropped packets or performance degradation. In
addition, unmatched low jitter and wander are accomplished through
unique synchronous timing capabilities.
Earlier this year, Net Insight announced an 8 x Video Access Module
for the Nimbra 600 series, supporting HD/SD-SDI and ASI, which was
recently deployed for a major customer in Asia.
