Life of Michigan Man Saved as Police Use TASER Device to Prevent Suicide

According to an article in the September 16, 2008 edition of the Traverse City Record-Eagle entitled "Police Taser man attempting suicide," a 62-year-old Michigan man is alive today thanks to the ability of police to use a TASER(r) ECD to safely prevent him from taking his own life.

The article indicated that on Saturday, September 13, Traverse City police responded to a 911 call from a man threatening to kill himself with a knife. Upon arrival, police found the man seated in a chair with the knife pressed to his chest. As the man began to press the knife into his chest, the officers deployed a TASER device to incapacitate him and disarm him.

The man was admitted to the hospital for medical treatment of a minor stab wound and psychological evaluation.
