Entropic Communications and NETGEAR Announce the Industry's First MoCA 1.1 Certified Bridge for Multimedia Home Networking

NETGEAR(r) MCAB1001 Utilizing Entropic's Technology Now Supports MoCA 1.1 Functionality

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- International CES Booth 25829 -- Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon solutions to enable connected home entertainment, in conjunction with NETGEAR, a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking solutions, today announced that the NETGEAR(r) MCAB1001 has been certified as the industry's first MoCA(r) 1.1 Ethernet-to-coax bridge (ECB). The NETGEAR ECB kit provides the latest Multimedia over Coax Alliance features, which enable consumers to network their SD/HD video devices, game consoles, network attached storage devices and personal computers to support multiple HD video streams simultaneously with high-speed file transfers throughout the home over existing coaxial cable.

The Latest in Home Entertainment Networking

Expanding the use of MoCA beyond service operator multimedia home networks, the NETGEAR MCAB1001 Ethernet-to-coax bridge kit brings this same operator class reliability and speed to consumers wishing to upgrade to a wired home entertainment network. The MCAB1001 incorporates Entropic's EN2210 chipset, which formats data for the MoCA 1.1 standard and distributes multimedia content, including multiple streams of digital HD video and audio, throughout the home ensuring superior reliability with a glitch-free viewing experience.

MoCA solutions provide superior speed and range throughout the home versus competing wired or wireless solutions. With MoCA 1.1 certification, the MCAB1001 now offers support for up to 16 networked MoCA devices, parameterized quality of service (PQoS) and PHY data rates up to 250 Mbps with MAC layer throughput of 175 Mbps.

"Entropic continues to extend our MoCA leadership and is pleased to continue our partnership with NETGEAR to bring consumers the latest in home networking technology," stated Patrick Henry, CEO at Entropic. "The MCAB1001 Ethernet-to-coax bridge kit with MoCA 1.1 gives consumers an easy solution for setting up a robust home entertainment network without the need to install any new cables or wires."

Powered by Entropic's c.LINK Technology

NETGEAR's MCAB1001 is powered by Entropic's EN2210 c.LINK chipset, which enables a complete coaxial networking solution for the distribution of multiple streams of HD video, digital voice, broadband data, and other digital content. Since the MCAB1001 leverages the coax wiring already installed in consumers' homes, it enables a fast, secure and robust network without the need for new wiring, modifications or professional installation.

"At NETGEAR, we are committed to offering consumers the latest home networking technology and are pleased to be working with Entropic to deliver the first MoCA 1.1 solution," said David Henry, senior director of product marketing, Home/Consumer Products at NETGEAR. "Our MCAB1001 can now support up to 16 devices on the network, enabling consumers to use their existing coax to easily connect HD televisions, Bluray DVD players, digital and Internet set-top boxes, computers, gaming consoles and other networked devices without running any additional wires."
