Marimekko Corporation STOCK EXCHANGE RELEASE 8 April 2009 at 10.00 a.m. MARIMEKKO CORPORATION'S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING TODAY Mika Ihamuotila, President and CEO, comments on the market situation Mika Ihamuotila, President and CEO, will comment on the market situation as follows in his review at Marimekko Corporation's Annual General Meeting commencing at 2 p.m. today. “Difficult market conditions continued in the first quarter of 2009. Within the Marimekko Group, exports and domestic wholesaling have been most adversely affected by the weakening demand resulting from the recession. The situation in our own retail stores is clearly better, thanks to various price-driven marketing efforts which have boosted sales. I think it is a very positive sign that, despite the global recession, international interest in Marimekko design and the brand has remained strong and our new products have been extremely well received in the market. We expect tough market conditions to continue in the next few months, as there are no signs of improvement on the horizon. In this situation, it is very difficult to predict the outlook for the rest of the year. The full-year estimate given in our financial statement bulletin of 29 January 2009 remains unchanged: we anticipate the Marimekko Group's 2009 net sales to decrease by 5-10% and operating profit to decline distinctly compared with 2008 if the weak market situation continues in 2009 and Marimekko does not succeed in winning any significant orders for one-off promotions.” Marimekko's interim report for the January-March period of 2009 will be published on 13 May 2009.
