Schwandorf, April 27, 2009. In fiscal 2008, Schmack Biogas AG generated
consolidated sales of EUR 67.6 million, compared to EUR 135.2 million in
the previous year. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) amounted to
EUR -39.8 million, compared to EUR -9.6 million in fiscal 2007. In the year
under review, earnings were affected by weak sales as well as by adverse
special and non-recurrent effects and restructuring expenses totalling EUR
17.9 million. Total assets declined from EUR 127.8 million as of December
31, 2007 to EUR 93.1 million as of December 31, 2008; liquid funds, which
are included in total assets, dropped from EUR 20.3 million to EUR 13.4
million. As of December 31, 2008, the equity ratio stood at 38.1%. Gross
proceeds of EUR 6.3 million resulting from the capital increase decided in
December 2008 were booked in January 2009.
The company expects the business situation to improve significantly in
2009. Domestic sales are to increase primarily due to the sale of developed
gas feed-in projects. Orders on hand amounted to EUR 144.7 million at the
end of 2008, while incoming orders in the first quarter 2009 totalled EUR
25.0 million. Earnings will improve as a result of increased efficiency,
additional profit contributions from the rise in sales and the
non-recurrence of negative one-time effects.
In view of the upcoming publication of a securities prospectus for the
admission of new shares from the latest rights issue, Schmack Biogas AG has
retracted its sales and earnings projections published on November 6, 2008.
This provides no indication as to whether 2009 sales or earnings will be
higher or lower than projected at the time.
