First Football for Hope Center equipped with Sun-TV Station

SolarWorld AG is dedicating its efforts in Africa to the social development
of young people and has just equipped the first 'Football for Hope Center'
in the community of Khayelitsha which is part of Cape Town/South Africa
with a Sun-TV Station in the run-up to the Football World Cup. This station
was now handed over to the operator of the center, the Grassroots Soccer
organization. The 'Football for Hope' movement was initiated by the
streetfootballworld organization in cooperation with FIFA and is part of
the official FIFA campaign '20 Centers for 2010' within the framework of
which 20 health, education and football centers are to be built in Africa.

Sun-TV: Football and education for Africa

'We are delighted that we have been able to equip the first 'Football for
Hope Center' with our media and education station powered by the sun', says
Gregor Küpper, head of SolarWorld Africa (Pty) Ltd. 'In these centers young
people cannot only play football with each other and jointly watch the
World Cup games but they can also improve their education beyond sports.'
Major topics at the 'Football for Hope Centers' are informal educational
offers, HIV/Aids information, literacy, equal rights as well as the
integration of mentally handicapped young people.

Solar power for television, light and laptops

The Sun-TV Station provided free of charge by SolarWorld AG consists of
twelve solar power modules with a total peak output of 2.64 Kilowatt, all
additional electronic components required for operation as well as a
battery to store the solar power. A television set with a satellite
receiver and a DVD player are also part of the equipment. The energy
generated by the SolarWorld solar power system is sufficient to operate not
only the television media equipment but also twelve laptops and to provide
lighting for the training room of the hours. By the start of the Football
World Cup next summer SolarWorld AG wants to install additional Sun-TV
Stations in southern Africa. 'Football makes the barriers between people
disappear. Since many Africans will not be able to afford tickets to the
World Cup games we want to promote access to the games with our Sun-TV
Stations', says Gregor Küpper. 'At the same time we can demonstrate the
multiple applications of this modern and sustainable technology.'
