Personal Money Management Part of College Leadership Summit

Students Learn From Local Credit Union Experts

MAPLE GROVE, MN--(Marketwire - November 10, 2010) - For the second consecutive year TopLine Federal Credit Union financial experts were invited to lead personal money management training sessions at the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MNSCU) 2nd Annual Leadership Summit, held in Bloomington, Minnesota.

The summit brings together students from 47 public community and technical college campuses across the state of Minnesota to provide them with the training that will make them tomorrow's leaders. The four-day conference is designed to help students grow personally and professionally in addition to being better campus student advocates. The 275 elected student leader attendees developed new leadership skills, refined existing ones and built a network with other student leaders across the state. Student leaders attended sessions on goal setting, personal financial management, the perception of role models, principles of outstanding teams, student leader to world leader, and researching legislation, just to name a few.

TopLine's sessions, "The Real World of Personal Money Management," helped students understand how to manage finances, including the importance of saving, how to use credit wisely; what a credit score means, how it affects you and how to build and maintain a good score; where to obtain a copy of a credit report; budgeting tips; and strategies on how to reduce debt and prevent identity theft. The interactive sessions included thought-provoking questions with real life examples. And, most importantly, students learned how their actions today can have an impact on future financial options.

"A special thanks goes to MNSCU for inviting us again to speak on the importance of personal money management," says Harry Carter, president and CEO, TopLine Federal Credit Union. "We are committed to improving financial literacy and developing personal money management skills for young adults, which is why the MNSCU Leadership Summit was an excellent venue to allow us to help student leaders improve their financial well-being, knowing they are charged with sharing this information with students on their respective campuses too."
