Fwix Launches Geotagger to Index Major Media Content by Location

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 9, 2011) - Fwix announced today the launch of its free Geotagger application, the first application to allow publishers and websites to organize their content around locations. NBC Local Media is partnering in this public beta program launch by rolling out Fwix's Geotagger across its online properties in 10 major US markets.

Fwix is organizing the world's information by location. Geotagger allows publishers to deliver a new layer of location-based relevancy to their web property, for free. The company's Geotagger technology identifies the places mentioned in a given piece of web content, and publishers can then access the location data provided by Fwix for increased relevance and performance in location-based advertising.

"With the rise of mobile phones as the main way people access the Internet, search is becoming as much about where you are as it is about what you want," said Darian Shirazi, founder and CEO of Fwix. "By geotagging the web, we're creating a new type of search index built for location and for the mobile revolution."

"Fwix is a valuable technology partner for NBC Local Media in our efforts to both serve location-relevant content to our online visitors, as well as continue to improve our effectiveness in targeted advertising," said Greg Scholl, President of Local Integrated Media at NBC Local Media.

Geotagger also gives greater exposure to the publisher by syndicating the tagged content to a larger audience through the Fwix API, which sees more than 8 million calls per day. Additionally, publishers can use the technology to provide their readers with content related to the article that has been geotagged.

Media publisher New West will also be participating in the beta program. Publishers interested in the Fwix Geotagger can contact geo@fwix.com.
