Thunder Bay Singles Starts Jump Up in July

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 9, 2011) - July single-detached home starts in Thunder Bay were six units ahead of the level attained a year earlier. According to data released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), there were 34 single-detached homes started in July, up from 28 last year. Despite this increase in July, the year-to-date total is off two per cent from the first seven months of 2010.

"July's strength offset the weaker activity in June," noted Warren Philp, CMHC's Northern Ontario Market Analyst. "The upswing was not unexpected since the slow 2011 start pushed forward the building season somewhat."

There were no semi, row or apartment starts in July after 24 units started in June.
