DSP Group Expands DECT Chipset Family With Release of DCX81 Revolutionary Advanced SoC

Highly Integrated DECT Solution Offers Exceptional Processing Capabilities at Lowest Power Consumption

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 10, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DSP Group®, Inc. (Nasdaq:DSPG), a leading global provider of wireless chipset solutions for converged communications at home, announced today the release of its cutting-edge DCX81 DECT chipset solution. Part of the company's market-leading XceedR™ family of cordless chipset solutions, DCX81 is a Flash-based system-on-a-chip (SoC), offering unrivaled range, audio quality and processing power, enabling advanced GUI and visual monitoring capabilities. Featuring industry's smallest footprint, highest level of single chip integration, and lowest power consumption, DCX81 is the best cost-optimized solution for mid-range to high end DECT/DECT 6.0/CAT-iq products.

Built on an open platform with strong 208 MHz ARM926EJ-S™ core processing capabilities, the DCX81 solution includes all required functionalities of a digital baseband controller, analog front end, RF transceiver, and power amplifier. The SoC also features a highly flexible Quad-SPI (QSPI) serial Flash memory interface for executing code in place and storing data on a single Flash device, minimizing time to market, system cost and operational overhead. Supporting all DECT bands and protocols including the latest generation of CAT-iq, DCX81 chipset enables worldwide coverage.

Combining highly integrated state-of-the-art RF and low-power baseband functions with a rich set of telephony features and audio-processing capabilities, the chipset meets future digital cordless product's needs, and is suitable for new and advanced applications. Software-compatible with previous DCX generations, DCX81 also comes with hardware and software reference designs, reducing customer development efforts.

Allowing the implementation of advanced graphical UI for high-end cordless handsets with big color screens, DCX81 is also ideal for home monitoring products. Equipped with strong DMA, abundance of embedded memory and external memory interfaces, as well as JPEG decoder hardware, DCX81 is capable of doubling the frame rate or image resolution of today's DECT home monitoring and baby monitoring devices. Based on the previous generation DCX79, today's monitoring devices are transferring voice and data over-the-air and decoding over eight Motion JPEG frames per second at 120x160 color image resolution.

DCX81 small size and high integration allow design of most compact products. DSP Group is showing at CES a USB dongle of only 27 mm in length, which comprises full DECT base-station functionally. Such module can be plugged to or integrated into Home Gateway devices for cordless voice and home automation enhancements along CAT-iq and DECT ULE standards.

"Our cutting-edge DCX81 chipset represents the next generation of DSP Group's market leading digital cordless solutions, including Home Monitoring and Home Gateways, supporting CAT-iq and DECT ULE," said Ran Klier, VP Cordless and VoIP Product Line Management at DSP Group. "Raising the bar for integration, flexibility and performance, while delivering the lowest power consumption, the cost-effective DCX81 is leading the way in the cordless phone as well as Home Gateway and Home Automation evolution."
