DSP Group Receives Wi-Fi Alliance Certification for XpandR-III 802.11b/g/n Multimedia Reference Design

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 10, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DSP Group®, Inc. (Nasdaq:DSPG), a leading global provider of wireless chipset solutions for converged communications at home, has been awarded the Wi-Fi Alliance Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ seal of approval for its XpandR® III multimedia reference design. The certification recognizes the reference design's compliance with IEEE radio standards 802.11b/g/n, including WMM® (Wi-Fi Multimedia™) quality-of-service (QoS) and WPA2™ (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) security programs.

The XpandR III 802.11b/g/n form-factor reference design for media and video phones is based on DSP Group's innovative XpandR III system-on-a-chip (SoC) for connected multimedia screens. Facilitating the cost-effective development of multimedia terminals, the XpandR multimedia chipset family is empowering the new wave of devices that are reshaping home and enterprise communications. Optimizing real-time communications with enhanced video telephony, XpandR powered the world's first Android-based wireless multimedia home phone, and is the only SoC solution supporting both Wi-Fi and DECT. Featuring a highly integrated, two-cores application processor with wireless connectivity, XpandR is a complete system solution for multimedia home terminals, multimedia home phones, tablet/media phones, and video phones.

Wi-Fi CERTIFIED is a program for testing products to the 802.11 industry standards for interoperability, security, easy installation, and reliability. WMM certification indicates a product's support for multimedia content over Wi-Fi networks, enabling them to prioritize traffic generated by different applications using QoS mechanisms. WPA2 certification indicates a product's ability to operate with strong security and privacy in personal and enterprise environments. Wi-Fi certification accelerates time to market, minimizes risk, and reduces OEM/ODM costs in developing Wi-Fi enabled devices for real-time video and voice applications.

"We are very pleased to have received the Wi-Fi Alliance stamp of approval for our XpandR III 802.11b/g/n reference design," said Oz Zimerman, Corporate VP of Marketing and Business Development at DSP Group. "The certification of our cutting-edge multimedia chipset solution will enable fast development of low-cost and secure devices for all our customers and will ensure robust, interoperable and reliable Wi-Fi connectivity for their devices."
