Union and Company Reach Tentative Deal for 10,000 Metro Workers


MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 16, 2012) - The Union representing 10,000 Metro workers across the province announced today, after extending this week's round of scheduled negotiations by a day, that the parties have reached a tentative agreement.

The United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Locals 175 & 633 will hold membership meetings on Sunday, March 25, at which time members of the bargaining unit will be provided with details of the deal.

"After a long set of negotiations, the Union negotiating committee is unanimously recommending this agreement to our members," explains UFCW Local 175 President Shawn Haggerty. "We had so much support from the members throughout this whole process - they gave us a strong strike mandate and allowed us to go back to the bargaining table with the solidarity of everyone standing behind us."

Locals 175 & 633 of the United Food & Commercial Workers Canada form the largest local union of the United Food & Commercial Workers. The Locals represent approximately 60,000 workers in more than 900 workplaces, across about 20 sectors of the economy. Offices are located in Mississauga, Ottawa, Hamilton, Cambridge and Thunder Bay.
