Flat Top Grill, Pioneer of the Create-Your-Own Meal Concept, Celebrates 20 Years

Introduces Original 1995 Pricing, New Menu Items and Partnership with Local Artists

CHICAGO, Aug. 13, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Flat Top Grill, the create-your-own meal hotspot, with locations across the Midwest, is celebrating their 20-year anniversary by offering their original pricing from 1995. They will kick off Labor Day weekend by offering $9.95 meals all day, from Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7. In addition, they will be introducing new menu items, partnering with local artists to update their restaurant interiors, and introducing Chef recommended culinary creations.

Known as the pioneers of the create-your-own meal concept, the Flat Top Grill brand continues to gain popularity for offering a variety of vegan, vegetarian, allergy-friendly and meat protein options. In celebration of their 20th Anniversary, they are adding new menu items (for a limited time) including salmon, pulled pork, andouille sausage and jasmine rice -- a direct response to customer feedback. "We listened to what our customers were requesting and thought this was a perfect time to add in some new items. If they are well-received you could potentially see them on the menu for the next 20 years," said Marty Perdicho, VP of Operations.

Customers can package fresh, hand-picked ingredients, including proteins, veggies and sauces, to create their own burritos, soups, lettuce wraps, Roti tacos, stuffed sandwiches or traditional bowls. The limited time promotion will offer lunch and dinner at the original prices from 1995, the year the first Flat Top Grill opened in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood, allowing customers to stroll down memory lane, and save big, too

For 20 years, Flat Top Grill has proudly immersed themselves in their communities through local events and promotions. For this milestone celebration, the Chicagoland locations have enlisted the help of local artist John Wilson, an artist, actor, scenic designer and educator, to design the iconic chalkboards that adorn the walls. The chalkboards were designed to celebrate each unique community and encourage culinary creativity. The Madison, Wisconsin Flat Top Grill hired Johanne Grinden to create the locally themed chalkboards. When asked about her experience painting "live" in front of the guests, she replied, "I believe people truly enjoy seeing an artist perform. One could assume it is more productive to work on such projects behind the scenes, but there is good energy around the conversations." Perdicho added, "The local talent here is amazing. We want to empower our community and invest in their talent."

To round out the 20th Anniversary celebration, Flat Top Grill has partnered with Sysco Chicago's seasoned chef, Chef Klaus Mandl, to provide culinary inspiration. Chef Klaus will be incorporating the new 20th Anniversary proteins - salmon, pulled pork, andouille sausage - into three suggested "creations" that will inspire customers who are seeking certain flavors or simply wanting to finesse their culinary skills. "Our customers are very inventive and take their creations very seriously. It's important that we continue to show them how much we care about their experience."
