Memorial Monument Ceremony to Honour New Brunswick Victims of Impaired Driving


MONCTON, NB--(Marketwired - September 10, 2015) - MADD Canada and its New Brunswick Chapters and Community Leaders will honour victims of impaired driving this Sunday, September 13 in a special ceremony of hope and remembrance.

The ceremony will take place at the New Brunswick Memorial Monument for Victims of Impaired Driving. The monument is inscribed with the names of victims of impaired driving, including three victims whose names were added this year.

"Through this monument and this ceremony, we honour the memories of people who have been so tragically taken from us through this senseless and preventable crime," said MADD Canada National President Angeliki Souranis. "We stand with their families and friends, to pay tribute and to offer our support."

MADD Canada's New Brunswick Chapters and Community Leaders, elected officials from the cities of Moncton and Riverview, and representatives from police services, fire departments and emergency medical services will join the families and friends as they light candles to honour each of the victims named on the monument.

Impaired driving continues to be the leading criminal cause of death in Canada, claiming between 1,250 and 1,500 lives each year.
