Driving Impaired Is a Decision That Could Haunt You Forever -- Plan Ahead for a Sober Ride Home This Halloween

OAKVILLE, ON--(Marketwired - October 30, 2015) - Don't let your Halloween festivities turn into a real-life nightmare by driving impaired. If you're going to be drinking this weekend, MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada urge Canadians to plan ahead for a sober ride home.

"Just as the kids say 'trick or treat' when they visit homes in their Halloween costumes to collect candy, we hope all the adults will be saying 'drink or drive' to reinforce the fact that you can do one or the other, but please never do both," said MADD Canada National President Angeliki Souranis. "If your Halloween plans include drinking, take a few minutes before the festivities start and plan a sober ride home. Driving while impaired is never worth the risk."

Day after day, Canadians are killed and injured in impaired driving crashes. MADD Canada and Allstate Canada are asking Canadians to reduce the risk of impaired driving this Halloween:

  • Don't drive impaired, or accept a ride with an impaired driver.
  • Plan ahead for a sober ride home. Take public transit, call a cab, or arrange for a designated driver.
  • Call 911 if you see a driver you suspect is impaired.

"In our industry, we see the terrible consequences of impaired driving crashes across this country far too often," said John O'Donnell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Allstate Insurance Company of Canada. "This Halloween, let's all do our part to end the terror impaired drivers bring to our roads by planning safe, sober rides home. It only takes a few minutes so there is never any excuse to drive impaired."

Whether you need a safe ride home from a party or bar, or you're hosting a party and need to arrange transportation for your guests, MADD Canada sponsor #TAXI offers a fast and easy option. Dial #TAXI (# 8-2-9-4) on any cell phone to connect to the first available taxi company or your taxi company of choice. For more information, visit http://www.poundtaxi.com/.
