“As an organization, we collectively set out each and every day to build longstanding relationships and enhance the lives of our patients, their families and the communities we serve,” said John F. Di Capua, MD, CEO of NAPA. “The bike build event allowed our leaders to expand on these efforts through LaAmistad and its dedication to improving the lives of children in the Atlanta community.”

“LaAmistad is incredibly grateful to reward 16 students from our 10 Afterschool locations with the bikes that were donated by NAPA,” said Gabriela Gonzalez-Lamberson, Development Director at LaAmistad. “These bikes were awarded to students that have demonstrated the greatest math improvement from the first assessment back in September to the final assessment this month in April. These bikes offer our students the opportunity to fully appreciate the joy in reaching educational accomplishments and further develops their self-confidence. We are humbled and thank you for facilitating this happiness.”

LaAmistad was started in 2001 by Bill Maness, who was serving as the director of the Gym at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, GA, offering a safe place for neighborhood children to go to improve their academics and develop strong character. In 2006, LaAmistad became a 501(c)3 non-profit to provide exceptional services to the children and their families. Today, LaAmistad has grown into a holistic program that includes afterschool tutoring, parent education, English for Successful Living classes and summer enrichment activities.
