New ABLV Bank Council Elected


Riga, Latvia, 2017-06-15 16:50 CEST (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On 15 June 2017, the meeting of ABLV Bank shareholders was held, at which the new Council of the Bank was approved. During the following 5 years, Oļegs Fiļs, Jānis Krīgers, Jānis Butkevičs, and Aivis Ronis will hold the positions in the Council.

Oļegs Fiļs and Jānis Krīgers were members of the Bank’s Council before. Oļegs Fiļs has been the Chairman of the Council since 2011. In the new Council, Oļegs Fiļs retains the position of the Chairman and Jānis Butkevičs – the position of Deputy Chairman of the Council, whereas the two newly elected Members of the Council are going to strengthen the capacity of the Council in the field of international law and international relations.

Aivis Ronis has substantial experience in diplomatic service, state administration and management of international organisations of cooperation, including the banking industry; he has been Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Transport of the Republic of Latvia, and president of the Association of Latvian Private Banks. He has received high government awards.

Jānis Butkevičs is a lawyer with considerable experience in international law, he has been representing the interests of entrepreneurs as an expert in the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Chairman of the Council Oļegs Fiļs is satisfied with the newly elected Council: “The Council of the Bank has many significant functions – supervision of the Board, supervision of the work of Audit Committee, approval of the strategy of the Bank’s operation, remuneration policy and other documents vitally important for the operation of the Bank proposed by the Board.
