Watching a solar eclipse through any other device that is not made for such a purpose can cause serious injury to eyes. Those in a path of totality can remove the filter when the sun is completely covered and it gets dark. When this period is over, put the solar viewer back on. Viewers in Louisiana will witness a partial solar eclipse, so they must wear protective solar eclipse glasses for the entirety of the event.
