The Plum Guide Launches in Four New Cities; New York, LA, Rome and Milan

Celebrates with Audio Tours Revealing Unique Stories Behind its Exceptional Vacation Homes

New York, NY, Sept. 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
London-born vacation rental start-up, The Plum Guide – a collection of the world’s best homes – has launched in four new markets: New York City, Los Angeles, Rome & Milan.

To celebrate the expansion, the company is showcasing some of its most unique vacation properties via immersive and experiential audio tours, turning them into gallery exhibits and walking guests through their rich history, art & design concepts and giving them an inside track on their exciting neighborhoods, all of which qualified them for a Plum Guide nomination – the most selective collection of vacation rental homes.

The Plum Guide will debut museum-quality audio tours for homes in each of the four new cities, including a massive Greenwich Village loft teeming with music and art history located just above the iconic site of Gerde’s Folk City and The Village Underground; a storied Los Angeles villa where the iconic film Frankenstein was shot; a rare antiquity-filled Roman apartment with sweeping terrace views of the Colosseum and Presidential Palace and a chic 5-story condo in Milan’s design district with high design & tech concepts and links to one of Italy’s most celebrated poets.

The Plum Guide has partnered with leading design critic and Editor-in-Chief of Design Milk, Jaime Derringer, to lend her voice for the gallery-inspired audio tours and to unwrap the stories hidden within The Plum Guide’s highly curated selection of lofts, villas, mini-mansions and chic apartments. The custom audio tours highlight the some of the many criteria considered by The Plum Guide's expert home critics, as well as the thoughtful touches by hosts behind some of the world's best homes. Listeners can find the tours via iTunes and Spotify.

“We choose each new market just as carefully as we select every home that makes it onto The Plum Guide,” said founder Doron Meyassed. “These cities are known for their rich culture and creative arts scenes, as well as their soulful & diverse neighborhoods. We don't think there's a better way to showcase the incredible new homes we're adding to the collection than by borrowing the gallery audio tour concept to illuminate how truly special they are.”

About The Plum Guide:

Founded in the U.K. in 2016, The Plum Guide has since expanded to Paris, and now New York, Los Angeles, Milan and Rome. Solving for the lack of objective quality control and choice overload in the homestay market, The Plum Guide separates the good from the great in the vacation rental category via their proprietary “Perfect Stay Test”, the world’s most exhaustive home test. Powered by Plum's Science Behind the Perfect Stay research, their 150+ point test leverages an innovative combination of big data and expert human curation to select its definitive collection of the world's best homes. As the world's first independent expert arbiter of quality in the homestay space, The Plum Guide is to vacation rentals what the Michelin Guide is to restaurants.

The Science Behind the Perfect Stay is a continually-evolving body of knowledge developed by analyzing thousands of customer reviews and gathering insights from psychologists, designers, hoteliers, travelers and architects on the precise ingredients a space needs to deliver a perfect stay. This knowledge informs the criteria in a test so rigorous that only 1 in every 100 homes is selected to be part of The Plum Guide’s collection.

PLUM STORIES (audio): https://www.plumguide.com/plum-stories

  • New York City: Sitting atop The Village Underground and the former site of Gerde’s Folk City, where legends like Bob Dylan got their start, this enormous airy loft has a marvelous music history all its own. These 15 foot ceilings also housed artists like Bud Hopkins, whose paintings hang on the walls, and who, fascinatingly, may be considered the father of the modern alien-abduction conspiracy theory. Current owner Alex Mallory shares stories of how the loft was a gathering place for Village artists in his father’s day, and how he and a friend helped bring indie music back to the Village with their underground rock club, “Less Artists More Condos”, housed right inside this loft.
  • Los Angeles: Tucked into the hills of Los Feliz, Villa Sophia is a historic Tuscan-inspired property from legendary architect Herbert H. Hewitt. Built in 1926 it has a true Hollywood heritage being where James Whale, the visionary director of Frankenstein, developed some of Hollywood’s most enduring films. These days this picturesque villa is a popular location for film, TV, and editorial photo shoots. Hear those tales and more in the story of this sprawling estate and its unique place in the pop culture pantheon.
  • Milan: In a city known for its high design concepts, this home in Milan’s canal district is steps from the Navigli gallery district and near the site of Milan Design Week. Explore the 5-story former industrial space, designed by the famed architectural firm of Roberto Piana, with its custom Turkish bath, home theater, unique tech-forward interior design, and a collection of Milanese contemporary art that would be at home hanging in any one of Milan’s cutting edge galleries.
  • Rome: The epitome of Roman taste and classic style. Known for its curated collection of antique furnitures, paintings, beamed and coffered ceilings the owner has created a truly magical atmosphere and sense of place. The home emanates history from each and every furnishing, and its terrace view stretches from the Colosseum to the iconic Presidential Palace.
