InnoTrans 2018: AIT presents innovative solutions for the multimodal transport of tomorrow


From 18 to 21 September 2018, the international trade fair for transport engineering will take place in Berlin and AIT’s stand will be there too

Vienna (AIT): InnoTrans 2018, the world’s most important trade fair for transport engineering with around 3,000 exhibitors and almost 140,000 visitors, will take place from 18 to 21 September in Berlin this year. Experts from industry and research, mobility providers and representatives from the public sector will meet to discuss the latest trends, innovations and intelligent solutions for passenger and goods transport, as well as transport infrastructure.

MODE: Smartphone-based recognition of methods of transport used as the basis of Be-In/Be-Out ticketing solutions
The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology’s Center for Mobility Systems will exhibit the latest developments in mobility research at its stand. The AIT MODE and SMART SURVEY solutions will be presented. MODE software technology recognises the methods of transport used via smartphones and collects detailed and reliable information about distances travelled without draining the battery. MODE can be integrated into various existing applications used by respective local transport providers and thus forms the ideal basis for future Be-In/Be-Out ticketing solutions.

With the SMART SURVEY app, AIT provides a ready-to-use complete solution for mobility surveys via smartphones and web service. It provides high-precision, multimodal mobility data for transport planning and mobility research in cities and municipalities.

IMPACT: Redesigning multimodal mobility systems more efficiently
IMPACT introduces a new tool that analyses the effect of a range of measures in the transport sector, even before they are implemented. It incorporates all factors that cause a change in the people’s mobility behaviour – including fare increases, parking space management, shared mobility, new public transport lines, road construction and innovative technologies, such as automated driving.

The simulation models generated using IMPACT enable decision-makers in public transport authorities, infrastructure operators and municipalities to design efficient, user-focused and sustainable mobility systems.

SIMULATE and EXPERIENCE: Innovative simulation, analysis and optimisation of pedestrian flows
The optimisation of pedestrian flows in urban areas presents a major challenge. Therefore, AIT offers tailor-made scalable solutions for the simulation, analysis and planning of complex pedestrian flows in railway stations, airports, public transport systems, shopping centres, stadiums and event venues – also thanks to the use of virtual reality.

A particular highlight will be that at InnoTrans, SIMULATE and EXPERIENCE can be tested live as part of a showcase at AIT’s stand.
