Silverline and CUNY sponsor hackathon for hands-on learning and engagement for rising computer science students

New York, NY, Nov. 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Silverline, a Salesforce Platinum Consulting Firm headquartered in New York City, and The City University of New York (CUNY), the largest urban university in the country, are hosting a developer hackathon for computer science undergraduates for two days on November 9 and 10. The event allows students to both exercise their creativity and gain practical experience in their field.

The CUNY Career Success Initiatives is excited to offer students this opportunity for hands-on learning and experience. The developer hackathon will act as an externship for approximately 20 students, with the potential for select individuals to be offered a developer internship with Silverline. CUNY serves as one of the largest talent pipelines in the metropolitan area, and Silverline is proud to be their partner in this endeavor. Together, Silverline and CUNY are actively working to expand diversity and inclusion within the ever-growing tech field.

“Our partnership with CUNY reflects one of Silverline's core beliefs: that we all must constantly seek out opportunities to learn and grow,” said Jill Harrison, VP of Silverline Ventures and a panel judge for the hackathon. “Our hope is that through these fun, hands-on hacks, we can help expose CUNY's students to the next generation of applied AI, machine learning, and business skills that will help accelerate their careers and realize their potential.”

The hackathon will consist of four challenges centered around app and integrations building. The group will be comprised of juniors and seniors, who will be divided into groups of three to four students that will work together to come up with innovative solutions to the given scenarios. The groups will present at the end of the two days to a panel of judges comprised of CUNY and Silverline employees. Awards will be given for Best Solution and Best Presentation.

Angie Kamath, University Dean of Continuing Education and Workforce Programs added, “We are thrilled to be partnering with NYC-based Salesforce consulting firm, Silverline, on a 2-day Hackathon for CUNY students. This is what experiential learning looks like!”
