Academy of Art University Tops the Rookies 2018 Global School Rankings

Ranked as one of the Best Digital Illustration and 3D Motion Graphics School in the World

San Francisco, Nov. 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Academy of Art University was recently ranked as Best Digital Illustration School in America, and one of the top 3D Motion Graphics School globally. Over 580 schools from 87 countries were considered by the Rookies in its 2018 rankings of the Best Creative Media & Entertainment Schools. The Rookies is an international annual awards and mentor platform that was founded in 2009 and sponsored by the multinational software company, Autodesk. The Rookies has grown to become one of the most recognized school rankings with almost 3,000 entrants worldwide in 2018.

The Rookies utilizes a comprehensive and unique ranking methodology that focuses on the quality of students’ portfolios that are submitted to its judging panel, which best reflect the recruitment interview process; and each school is awarded a final score based on the performance of each student representing their academic facility.

“The reason we take this approach is because we believe the goal of each creative school is tasked with helping students learn the right creative and technical skills that mirror the requirements of industry. It is their job to train artists to a level that allows them to transition from to a professional environment with ease,” according to the Rookies.

Its prestigious judging panel has over 60 influential industry experts from around the world and includes two-time Oscar-nominated animator and the Head of Animation at Animal Logic, Rob Coleman; Creative Art Director at Weta Digital, Gino Acevedo; the Global Head of Virtual Reality at HP, Joanna Popper and so forth.

Academy of Art University topped the rankings among two categories:
• 1st in America and the 2nd in the world for the Best Digital Illustration School
• 4th in the world for the Best 3D Motion Graphics School

Moreover, the Academy had 14 students up for 20 individual awards, including Scholarship Finalists and Internship Finalists, from the Schools of Animation & Visual Effects, Architecture, Illustration, Game Development, and Visual Development, according to the Rookies website. It also had a current Game Development student, LiGang Zheng, win the prestigious “Rookie of the Year” award in the Digital Illustration bracket, topping 25 category finalists from other schools around the world.
